The fall has been pretty hectic. Much exams and work. I may have been seen on red painted hulls with a single white stripe.Jean-du-Sud is winterized. A few bits of maintenance to be done in the spring, but she is overall in good shape.I will write more during the holidays and have a look back at the season. 2024 was an amazing year. Not posting much these days. Jean-du-Sud is slowly undergoing it's haulout prep.One season later, the beta 20 still works like a charm. The sole noticable deterioration is the zinc anode that corroded fast and pretty badly. I am pretty proud of the fact that the engine (and its install) are amongst the most reliable elements on the boat.#jeandusud #alberg30 #betamarine

We are currently in Mahone Bay and will most likely be there for the upcoming month. Awesome sailing plan.Plans have changed, for the best, although less sailing with Jean-du-Sud is involved. This most likely mean a haulout in late October.

Pic 1: Cap aux Meules ("Grinder cape") with the fishing port/marina. They use to make seed grinders for windmills from the rock there, hence the name.Pic 2: near Havre-Aubert ("Aubert's port"), the southern marina.Pic 3: Île d'entrée ("Entry island") in the fog induced by the Northeast (stormy) winds. You need to pass between the main island and this island to get to Havre-Aubert. We are at anchor in Mont-Louis, a small fishing vi

We are at anchor in Mont-Louis, a small fishing village in between the Chic-chocs mountains in Gaspésie. Mont-Louis is on the northernerst stretch of the south shore of the St-Lawrence. After Matane, the next big city (> 10 000 people) is Gaspé.Mont-Louis is a natural port, sheltered naturally by the mountains, and extended later with jetties. There are two or three of them in Gaspésie. Besides fishing and tourism, there is not much more (that I know of).Chic-chocs comes from the language of the Mic-Macs first nation, occupying the territory long before the first French settlements. It means "impenetrable barrier", and is a quite accurate description of the landscape. It looks like the Fjord on one side, but the St-Lawrence opens up on the other side, leaving the impression of the Atlantic coast. The other side of the river is 58 nautical miles north, and Anticosti island, seriously scouted by german u-boats during WWII, is about fifty nautical miles northeast.#jeandusud #alberg30 #cruisinglife #sailing #gaspesie

Ste-Anne-des-Monts. If you are of the hiker type, you may want to stop there for a week. This is the closest port to the Gaspésie national park, arguably the nicest hiking ground in Québec. For those who know, the Canadian extension of the Apalachian trail goes through the park.Small sailing day, with the first ten miles with peaks of 5.6 knots, and the last remaining ten under engine.#jeandusud #alberg30 #cruisinglife
