I came across two videos on the Sailing Zingaro channel that describe relatively well the desirable characteristics of an offshore sailboat. The comments seem well-founded enough for me to say that these are two good reference videos. In particular, the impact of the hull shape on the boat’s maneuverability, the simplicity of the boat and the ability of the standing rigging to quickly reduce sail area are important points. It also points out that it’s all about trade-offs: adding something desirable usually means having to do something else.
The videos are short. Despite the light editing, it’s worth concentrating on the author’s experience and substance.
