I am preparing for an ocean crossing. We will be leaving La Rochelle, sail south the Canary Islands, which will be our springboard for the trade winds. We hope to finish our crossing in Antigua, but our final destination is Nassau. It is a bit late in the season, as the trade winds will fade and the hurricane season will begin in June, when we arrive. If speed is not with us, weather forecasts will certainly be!
I leave for La Rochelle next week (one week too late for the Golden Globe Race!). In the meantime, most of my time is on the planning of operations. We leave with someone else’s boat, which means that our first days in La Rochelle will be devoted to thorough security and gear checks.
This also means that sadly, Jean-du-Sud will be on the ground in May. She will however get a new bottom paint job and will be ready for my return in June.
(I promise some pictures!)
